Defining New Banner Paradigm

OUTCOME

The biggest outcome of this project for me was that it redefined how I understood what a Banner could be.

Before this project, I mainly thought of banners as traditional fabric flags. This was the first time I realized that felt, PU, embroidery, metal hardware, and sewn structures could be combined to create a completely different type of Banner. Instead of simply being a printed piece of fabric, it could become a more dimensional collectible display through the integration of different materials, structures, and manufacturing processes.

This project was also one of the first times I brought material selection, sewing processes, artwork modification, metal hardware selection and processing, assembly, and final packaging together within a single product development process. It gave me much more confidence when approaching unfamiliar Banner designs, flags, and even product structures I had never worked with before. I knew I could break them down, understand the materials and processes involved, and find a practical way to manufacture them.

More importantly, that confidence later carried over into the development of Dragon Age IP Banners. During the prototyping stage of a later Dragon Age Banner project, I photographed the finished sample and sent it to the client. They were impressed by how well the design had translated into a physical product. The sample gave the client greater confidence in this product format and encouraged them to continue developing Banner products for the Dragon Age IP.

OUTCOME

The final banner achieved a stable, balanced hanging position while maintaining the intended layered design and detailed graphics. The improved printing process also ensured that both large graphics and small text remained clear despite the rough felt surface.

The product performed very well commercially and sold out quickly, demonstrating strong demand from fans.

OUTCOME

The product quickly proved its market appeal, with pre-orders exceeding the initial order quantity before production was even completed. Despite a relatively high retail price of $65 per piece, demand remained strong enough that we had to restock after the initial production run sold out.
